For almost twenty years Iiro Rantala has conquered the jazz stages of Europe and beyond, with his anarchist “Trio Töykeät”. Her debut album with ACT “Lost Heroes” marked a turning point in Rantala’s music: the wild and uncontrolled energy of the early days gave way to more melodic, harmonic and elaborate notes, even if Rantala’s wit always shines through. And so do his outstanding technical skills of classical training.
Rantala manages to combine elements that seem to contradict each other: he is both a critically acclaimed and award-winning artist, but, at the same time, he amazes and attracts a very diverse audience. He performs regularly both in major festivals and jazz clubs, and in the most exclusive classical music halls, solo, as the leader of various trios – and also with the full orchestra.
Its musical scope ranges from jazz to classical, pop and Scandinavian musical and folk tradition. With a lot of feeling and melancholy but also with wit and charm.
